Questions for Active Annie
From Kristy:
What is the best time to work out?
Whenever you have free time! Just make sure you’re getting at least 30 minutes of exercise. That’s the great thing about working out: you can exercise inside or out and make it as fun as you’d like. Also, keep in mind that you should give yourself a good amount of time after you eat to exercise. Wait at least 30 minutes but depending on how big the meal is, you might have to wait longer.
From Shasha:
Do you count riding a scooter as exercise? Do you count fruit candy as healthy food?
As long as it’s not an electric scooter, you can still count it as exercise. Make sure you’re getting your heart rate up and getting a good workout when riding your scooter. Usually, you can tell if you’re getting a good workout if you’re sweating and breathing hard during or after the exercise.
That’s a good question! No, fruit candy doesn’t count as healthy food mostly because it’s candy, which contains a lot of sugar and no nutritional value. Even if the candy is fruit-flavored, that doesn’t mean it is actually made from fruit. Colors and flavors are added to those candies to make them taste sweet and fruity so all of that processed and artificial ingredients make candy bad for you.
From Brittany:
what is a bmi?
Great question! BMI stands for Body Mass Index, which is the percentage of total weight from fat calculated from your weight and height. So, the higher your BMI the higher percent of fat you have in your body. For children, BMI is used to determine whether a child is obese, overweight, at a healthy weight, or underweight. You can calculate this yourself with help from a parent or a teacher (formula: your weight in pounds divided by the square of your height in inches), but you should check with your doctor or school nurse to determine what meaning of your BMI. Remember, the amount of body fat changes with age and differs between boys and girls.
From Dyanna:
how many times does it take to go around a track to make a mile?
Unless the track isn’t standard size (it should say someone on a sign that it isn’t), then four laps is a mile. Good luck!
From Anonymous:
is gatorate a good drink
Sports drinks like Gatorade are good for re-hydrating you after a long workout, especially when you’re outside and sweating a lot (which means you are losing your body’s water and two minerals called: sodium and potassium). Gatorade gives you that sodium and potassium back that was sweat out during the workout. The bad thing about Gatorade is that it has a lot of sugar, which isn’t good for your body, especially for kids. Usually, sports drinks are best if you do a workout for an hour or longer. If you’re exercising 30 minutes a day, then water is the best option.
Questions for Jack
From Natasha:
What is your favorite fruit and vegdable?
I’m glad you asked! There are so many fruits and vegetables I like. I try to eat a variety of both every day. Yesterday I had some strawberries and carrots. Today I had some grapes and tomatoes. I also like to try new things. I used to not like pineapple, but when I tried it again, I thought is was delicious. Different fruits and vegetables grow at different seasons. Spring is a great time to find berries in the store.
From Izzy:
is it bad to have a piece of candy one day a week?
It’s not bad to have a piece of candy once in awhile. It’s a treat. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, be physically active daily, and enjoy the occasional piece of candy, popsicle or cookie.
